Second Best 04:05
eyes collide with my feet couldn't keep my head up or my vision with the street i fall down in a heap i'm afraid i can't keep fooling anyone but me i'm not what i thought i really want to be but it's like when you're never really satisfied when it comes around to me i'll always second guess second best and it's a sloe gin sippin' away and it's the best you'll never have so when i come around i think you better meet me halfway look around not a sound i have found not one reason a failure it's all i'll be it's a failure it's all i'll be
2.
Supposed To 03:07
as i see these changes in my friends question those decisions my margins closing quickly reevaluate positions sinking deeper every day nervous traits give it away and all those little lies i say i think that everyone's this way someone said unsatisfied but it doesn't capture what i'm trying to describe replace those feelings trapped inside with that commonplace advice what am i supposed to do? it's right in front of you everything everything in another state of mind i find it easy to empathize i wonder why i'm not ahead and making lots of money repeated pattern every day it's laid right there in front of me like an easy kill i'm not prepared to be that victim yet i am supposed to do everything
3.
stealing sleep from winter days thinking of ways i have failed the sun goes down when i awake these walls they keep me from my health floor interprets last nights memories these days i'm not myself i search to find the quickest way and then stick around singin' a penny serenade for everyone that's left this place i can't believe it's been that long soon i'll be gone killing time is killing me with cigarettes and broken dreams broken trees and stale footprints drowning in a still white sea and the reflection of me
4.
i punch the air so hard right through it's rusted out and it broke in two cover up the damage lingers on and i smile to pass it on so hard to breathe when the air ran out i exhale to let it out i can't move i can't choose see right here nothing asphyxiated when my time ran out can't you see in the dark? don't you take my hand i always try to fix what's broken down no time to i'm feeling ageless and it's time to leave i'm getting older now i just can't breathe i point the way ahead i'm standing still and you wonder what's going on this life is it doesn't end when the voice carries through it's rusted out and it broke in two cover up the damage lingers on and i smile to pass it on so hard to breathe when the air ran out i exhale to let it out i can't move i can't choose see right here nothing
5.
drive down that dead end street it's where we used to live no revelation there railroad tracks at the cul de sac the shopping carts and the furniture barricades never did derail that train twisted metal and the broken frames so were we thankful that it never happened here or did we wait for that disaster drinking beer on the sofa on the rooftop of the upside down it's all upside down it's all do you wish for tragedy just to see it happen here or do you smile in a sigh of relief when your friend wakes up in a hospital room no time for remorse now it's all been broken down a penny saved they call a penny earned and we never learned that lesson there that year leaving pennies on the railroad tracks as a flattened copper regret upside down it's all upside down it's all driving down that dead end street it's where we used to live
6.
If You Fall 03:11
if you fall on your sword you might be a saint or you might be a martyr you stand up straight learn to think but you follow blindly the days are plain walk the lane grip on sane catch the train to leave yourself just left on the out bound lane turn around talk out loud don't make a sound hum to yourself happy you were born with a spoon in your mouth it was wrong what they said it's true what they said one at time all my friends come down i've seen the lights and i've heard the sirens sound but we still wear the crown and the ground seems like a lovely place to lay call it freedom justified kingdom pleased by places that you've never been selling stories that you've never seen past your screen
7.
More At Home 02:34
jaw wired shut like trap your senses cold and numb you're as lifeless as a leaf in fall put you in the stretcher watch you crawl across the street each night makes me wonder if you could do it all over would you still feel more at home drinkin and listening you don't feel so alone more at home room full of strangers that place you call your own every night that you go out i'm at home not thinking of you or milwaukee like that painting left undone you have let yourself become a red-eyed regular just another
8.
i can look until my eyes turn from brown to blue and pretend every girl that i see isn't you does it change a thing? we're hopelessly waiting for that letter to arrive well i haven't sent it i'm alone with a pen and paper for the present it's evident my perfect descent it began at the end and as i looked ahead can't even take the first step can't even try to pretend it's all in reverse that bad day got worse your anger insecurity pushed me away and i should have known everything i learned that day but you can never know until you try never know until you try has it changed nothing at all i think i'll try from now on not to start at the end get the conclusion first and then the middle begin do you think it will work for me? breathe out before you suck in maybe i'll try to smoke again it seems to have worked for you when you wanted me and i wanted you and it was such a simple singular point of view an equal equation adds one and one, two one and one, two
9.
Half Way 02:28
hardly walking and regressing so passive here is it empty satisfying writing words no one hears he threw that bottle and he threw away our time sometimes i think it was the only way i could make you smile you go halfway second guessing happens every time in that doorway one decision right you go halfway second guessing falling hard this time in that doorway one decision right work forever it's so hard so uninspired is this why this town is second rate i see through words remember what they signify i'd like to see it on a canvas you create
10.
i laughed with him no tears in his eyes always wore a grin was a nice disguise he looked like any other and these hands won't ever cover can't see inside he looked like any other never did realize but i heard those fists they did fly do we ever know myopic vision has transformed this show into a carnival nostalgia for this task bury your memory with the dirt on these hands i laughed with him he snapped like that did he hurt his friends golden silence grins he looked like any other of our friends and i hear it's typical these days do we ever know myopic vision has transformed this show into a carnival nostalgia for this task bury your memory at last
11.
Seven Hours 02:36
seven hours up all night and so are you makes it right 'cause i've been thinking about you too took a long time to admit to myself i tried to make it how it should have been but never was do you ever think what could have been you asked me once? was i wrong? what were you thinking when i said what were you thinking when i said seven hours up all night and so are you never ask me anything about myself i'll always wonder what you were thinking do you see anything i do?
12.
Still Life 02:41
stop in between the lies this is one you never will complete don't you want that old trusty forty-five to fire you've been turned outside so ironic that it never happened transferred base to base wasnt brought out in the war made you learn to hide want to go and die turn over shelved and locked away still life falling down stop your memories don't you want that old trusty forty-five to fire in the face of all that you wanted and desired those details all remain so flawlessly retold stories fifty-five years old never leave
13.
Closed 03:46
wasting all along wasting all along wasting time you knew so well wishing i was wrong but you knew all along and all the time you wouldn't tell knew all along never let on that it was a lie knew all along never let on but it wasn't right you look away 'cause you're so shy you drink so much you lose your mind you look away
14.
Motor One 03:58
hanging on to the next overpass on this endless road i'm still hanging on to you i got my head caught up in the crowd emotions run on empty fuel i've got nothing more to give except to you so keep your eyes on the road think of what you know keep your eyes on the road think of what you've learned so put your hands back on the wheel and keep your head of out these memories i've got nothing more to say to you think of what you know think of what you've learned think of what you've learned
15.
Caught Up 03:46
16.
Refined 04:05
six miles left to run there's your smoking gun that leads me to the fact you've got no direction i've got a path to go unlike you have no goal i may not rhyme but you've got no reason to write what will be sung to say what will be heard by just like you who have no focus attention there's just one thing i am sure of simplify and refine i don't wonder what you mean when you say it's not hard to understand what you say this is now set in stone don't move around rock the boat it won't be understood within definition looking back now it's easy to see upheld this sorry tradition i turn my back wishing that wishing that slow pace dead on words you say
17.
when i looked across the ice cold and glassy skipped a stone so many times to break the surface never reached the other side found rounded rocks on the shore line this is my last time to ask you now justify your actions out of time answer to your question wrong this time i watched the water stand still cold and glassy wintertime skipped a stone across the ice just scratched the surface it seemed to reach the other side lost in winter white i find this is your last time so ask me now justify your actions out of time answer to your question wrong this time you thought you found the answer you're wrong this time i'm not who you wish that i would be you're not who i wish that you would be
18.
Seasonal 04:49
watching you now like a change from the winter back to fall to the spring skip the cold season never go back again bad advice from familiar faces give it some time and it will all work out in the end where's the punch line nothing gets done when nothing's put in and we're all burned out ask me why someone said facetiously ask me why this time ask me why someone said facetiously ask me why it's time to suffer now
19.
Crystal 02:52
20.
Polisci101 01:11
there's no regulation and i'm liberated and i'm not afraid in this police state you have a voice and i'm listening no domination, you're liberated don't fear humiliation in this police state you are right now on display, don't you feel much better this way? you have a voice and i'm listening there's competition among friends always, the rule is freedom in this marketplace

about

So, we've taken songs from the last few releases (Pop Culture Failure, Copper Regret, Red-Eyed Regular, and Texas One Ten) and did a little re-mastering and called the record Carnival Nostalgia: 2000 - 2006. It's a nice little retrospective that covers 6 years of the band and we think it will be a good way to introduce some new folks to the band. We also made sucker enhanced and have added videos for "More at Home" and "South Stanley Place"... plus we threw in a few live videos as well.
